Update - August 1, 2014

Recently many of you have asked about a toe up socks class.  This Saturday, August 2, at 12:00, we will have a free class on knitting toe up socks.  My beautiful sister-in-law, Petie, will be visiting from Pittsburgh and has offered to teach the method she teaches at her local shop.  She will provide instruction for starting these socks as well as her written pattern.   Even though the class is free, please call the shop to sign up since space is limited.  As for all classes, please bring only yarn that was purchased at Out of the Loop.

I'm also excited that I can finally offer free wifi here at Out of the Loop! I have always been an Optimum hotspot for those of you who already have cable internet at home but I finally have free wifi for all my customers.  Ask me about how to login next time you're here!

Just as a reminder, I'm still on summer hours and closed on Tuesdays but, as with any of my closed days, I never mind meeting you at the shop for something quick.  Just e-mail me and we'll set up a time.

Look for Japanese knot bags next time you're here.  They're on the way.

See you soon!

Sincerely,

Theresa Kirby

Update - August 22, 2014

Classes are planned.

Wool and alpaca yarns are arriving, hand-dyed and soft solids.

Fall is coming and I couldn't be more excited.

I hope you'll find something to learn on the preliminary class schedule.  Homa Oscar will be joining us to teach a beginner lace class starting in September and a new Chix class on Tuesday mornings.  She is a beautiful person and a fabulous knitter.  I'm sure you'll love her warmth and patience.

I'm thrilled to be teaching a couple of classes myself.  I'm planning to add more!  I've been planning a basic knitting techniques class using the Great American Aran Afghan for a while.  All the pieces (HA) are in place and it's on the schedule.

Update - September 27, 2014

I hope your fall is starting off as perfectly as mine!  Over the last couple of weeks I made a quick knit, mohair pullover, http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/29-mohair-sweater , that feels luxurious. The sheer silk and mohair and the split back make it a perfect transition to cooler weather, whether it's over a cami or a long sleeve tee.  It took four skeins but with the yarn held doubled on size 11 needles, it felt like two skeins and flew off my needles.  It's fast and fashionable!

I am absolutely thrilled about how the Great American Aran Afghan class has started off !  I have my first square complete and it is more beautiful than I imagined it would be.  While everyone in the class has hit a few bumps in the process, everyone has made incredible strides in learning to read charts and read their knitting.  I will post pictures of the first squares after the next class!

Yarn of the Month!

It will be 15% off for the month of October.

Noro Nadeshiko

This Angora, Wool, and Silk blend has been a staple here since I opened.  It's feminine texture and colorways make gorgeous accessories.  I made a dress (http://www.ravelry.com/projects/KirbyT/slipped-stitch-mini-dress) in three days, of three skeins, that makes me feel fabulous!

Update - November 15, 2014

Every fall I'm excited as the new yarns start rolling in and lining the shelves.  This year that feeling is almost overwhelming as there is so much more than the usual additions.  The colors and textures have inspired me to start new projects almost daily and there aren't enough hours in the day to finish all that I've started and keep the shop running, too.

I met the Plymouth Yarn Company representative recently after all these years and her excitement and love of fiber was contagious.  One of the yarns that we both loved was Homestead, https://www.plymouthyarn.com/yarn/homestead-item-536#colorcards .  This heavy worsted weight wool is made in Peru, is hand washable, and has that fabulous wool feeling that I find so satisfying.  It's not scratchy at all but it's not that smooshy feel that you get from yarns like Malabrigo. It's wool and I love it!
